Ok so i'm sure we have all heard that ArsinoeIV's tomb has been found. And that it is believed she is african descent. This raises a few questions for me...
How was she african descent? Obivously her mother wasn't King Ptolemy (The flute player)'s sister-wife, since their family is Greek/Maceadonian. Was she the only one or whom else of the siblings were not of 'pure' royal blood? Here on Wikipedia it states ArsinoeIV was only a half sister of CleopatraVII...is this an actual fact or speculation..? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsinoe_IV_of_Egypt
Then i started thinking more of CleopatraVII and that got me on to other questions about Cleopatra VII...
If Dr.Hawass has located the area as to which her tomb is...
Will her body be there? (I can't help but wonder if Octavian would 'do away with' any evidence of her...)
Will Antony's body, also, be there..?
What about Ceaserion? Since he was killed would he have his own tomb, perhaps close by? or would he have been placed with her? Or perhaps he was just left in the desert? or thrown into the nile?
I know i'm not really giving Octavian much credit here...maybe he was a decent man and gave them all proper burials...but i have to wonder...i mean Egypt basically declined...fast...after Rome gained full power. It is said so in books "Rome more or less turned it's eyes away from Egypt"
Then i wonder about the reasoning for this. Why did Octavian turn his back on Egypt so quickly? Was it because of shame? Because he had no battles left there? Because he just didn't care?
I am anxious for these answers...and to find out (if we find her, CleopatraVII's, body) how did she truly die. Did she really commit suicide with a snake bite, as myth tells us? Or perhaps was it murder? Or some other form of suicide? (Same goes for Marc Antony, agin if he is there also)
Goodness knows we can't just believe anything, this has been proven by the new findings in King Tutankhamen's death and by the discovery of the mummy the explaination of death of Queen/Pharaoh Hatshepsut.
These two were thought to have been murder (King Tutankhamen's injury could have been caused by an attack though) but have been found to have accidental/natural deaths. So just because were have been told it was suicide,by snake, is not officailly the case. in my opinion. (LOL I want answers badly. I hate waiting!
) Anyway another point on this subject of false report of death... that might be the case indeed. Again as it says in my history books, the Romans (and others but most deff. Romans) had a bad habit of 'rewiting' or 'editing' events and history especially when it will benefit them... So doubtfully Octavian would report to the Egyptian public "I killed her/had her murdered while she was making offerings/sleeping..." LOL he was too smart for that.
But then again perhaps it was suicide...i guess we HAVE to wait....
Hmmm now i'm begining to think about the legendary handmaidens of hers. "Iras" and "Charmanion". If they we actual people and truly this loyal and dedicated to their queen, did they actually die with her (Suicide or not)? Also i've heard/read they remained in the tomb with her, i wonder if that is true.
What an odd picture that would make: a queen her love/husband, perhaps her eldest child and her friends/handmaidens....deff.a hasty burial if these rumors are facts...
Please forgive me for any spelling errors or typos or mis-stated historical facts, it's late and i basically have slept in over 24hrs. lol
